Recently, there is a lot of mis-information floating around Rescreatu and the internet regarding the staff and bannings.
  1. Staff are lazy, and ban accounts that appear on the same IP address
  2. Staff are corrupt, and ban accounts to steal items, TU, and/or pets
  3. Staff are designing the game to maximize profit for themselves
  4. Staff bans users for accidentally abusing glitches
#1. Consider this for a moment: AOL is still one of the most popular ISP's today. AOL users have IP addresses which are constantly recycled and shared. Same for users in Singapore. The site has members with dozens, even hundreds, of IP matches from users on AOL or users from Singapore. If it were true that bans happen merely on the basis of an IP match, an enormous portion of the user-base would be banned.

#2. Staff has access to tools which can generate any item existing on the site. How do you think refunds are issued for items lost due to glitches? Staff also has access to tools that can edit the amount of TU a user has on-hand, and access to tools to edit user banks. Staff also has access to edit the location of any pet on the site, and move it anywhere it needs to go. This is how glitched forest finds, pets stuck in auctions, and pets stuck in trades are returned to you.

#3. Staff has less time to play the game as a user than any normal status user does. Staff put in countless hours of brainstorming new ideas, reading suggestions from users, designing, testing, and implementing new features of the game. It profits Patrick not ONE BIT for the game to be designed for staff profit. In fact, staff are extremely careful to design things in a way that does NOT give an unfair advantage; including reducing pay more than 50%. The amount of credits staff are paid works out to mere pennies on the hour. It DOES profit Patrick for staff to design the game in such a way that attracts and maintains a high number of users. If staff were designing the game purely for themselves, we would be fired.

#4. There is a severe misunderstanding of what is exploiting or abusing a glitch, vs unintentionally abusing a glitch. Showrooms are one example of unintentional abuse. They are not currently coded properly, and users are able to stock as many pets as they like, regardless of the upgraded level. Stocking pets beyond the level you paid for in your showroom is not exploiting a glitch. It is an oversight. You aren't profiting from it. Glitch abuse occurs when one or more users knowingly conspire to abuse a glitch for profit.

Everything done on Rescreatu is logged. Those tools staff has? Pat logs everything done with them. If a staff member were to become corrupt and use the tools for their own use, they would be discharged and banned. When I say everything is logged, I mean it is all logged. Merchant shop purchases, Rancher shop purchases, Stock market purchases, Pet trades, Bank transfers, Items sent, Items received, Credit offers completed, Credits purchased, Activity on all quests, Eggs you have picked up, and Rmail. Yes, staff can read your rmail. It doesn't matter if you delete it or not; its still there for us to see. Do we go through rmails routinely? No. That would be a ridiculous amount of work. Do we go through rmail ever? Yes. Users report harassment, it has to be investigated. Users claim deals have been made, it has to be investigated. Users under investigation for cheating will have their rmails reviewed also. If a staff member were to log into a banned account and send an item or pet from that account to theirs or any other, this would be logged.

Activity logs are reviewed regularly, and suspicious activity is flagged. This is how users are banned. There does not even need to be a matching IP address. A few users have invested time in finding dozens of proxies for their cheating behavior, thinking that will keep them under the radar. It simply isn't true; they are very exposed. They employ indirect methods of transferring items, pets, and TU to the main account via these proxies, yet the behavior is still obvious.  Investigation of cheating accounts sometimes goes on for weeks and months; it is rarely immediately able to be proven.

Are mistakes ever made? YES! I have made mistakes and issued bans wrongly due to misinterpretation of the activity logs. I'm human, what can I say. I have also gone back and corrected these mistakes when found, and apologized for my error.

As difficult as it may be to discover a friend has lied to you about their ban, chances are, that is exactly what has happened. I am hoping that this blog might shed some light on how things are really done behind the scenes, and encourage rational, logical thinking, rather than the conspiracy-theory gossiping garbage floating around the net.

Feel free to post comments or ask questions. I'll be happy to answer anything I can.

    1. I'm really sorry but staff is not allowed to unban an account because you didn't know the rules. Rules are posted very visibly on site, and it is the responsibility of each user to make themselves familiar with the rules. This is the same with any website.

  4. We will have to have a signed form from your parents confirming this before I can allow you to have shoutbox access. Rescreatu is compliant with the COPPA law, which states no child under the age of 13 may access a chatroom without written parental consent.

If you would like a copy of this form, let me know via rmail on Rescreatu. =)

  5. broken, my friend and her sister have both been recently banned because they use the same IP address. they have been using Rescreatu for a while now.My friend "Starial" is upset that the staff didn't believe the fact that her, and Soreyal are sisters. On her account she had alot of CS pets and is pretty upset about losing them, she hasent been talking to me lately, is there any way to prove that they are indeed sister and not one person cheating? And how can Staff find out whether people using the same IP code are siblings or not? -Berry1258

    1. IP addresses are only an indicator, they are never proof. The activity logs are where the proof lies. The patterns of someone playing more than one account versus the patterns of siblings playing their own accounts is markedly different and unique, so there is rarely any confusion. If there were confusion, the ban would not be issued.

  8. Broken, my account was banned a year ago, and I never got an explanation from staff as to why it was banned. I sent two emails, and nobody ever mailed. I'd be more than happy to give you account info, if you can try and help me out here.

  9. The "Contact Us" email was having some issues for a while. If you would like to send an email and have your question answered, I now have access to the abuse@rescreatu.com email address and will be happy to answer your question as best I can.

If you have rejoined the site, you are also welcome to send me an rmail or open a support ticket, if that is more convenient for you.

  10. I followed a link over from VirtualGameForum.com and found this article to be interesting. It's nice to see you are willing to discuss these issues with members and allow them a chance to reply to your message here.

  11. Does that mean the "contact us" email is still having issues and the emails sent wont recieve a responce?

I just recently sent one of those 'contact us' emails, so I was just wondering if I needed to resend or not...

    ReplyDelete
  12. If you send an email through the Contact Us link, choose Abuse as the subject.

I have access to the abuse@rescreatu.com account and will answer any and all relevant inquiries. You can even directly mail abuse@rescreatu.com if needed, and not use the Contact Us form at all. I don't believe the emails other than abuse are monitored regularly, so if you aren't getting a response, this is probably why.

  13. I sent my email over "Other" I just resent one under "Abuse"

    Thank You for reading.

  14. Wow. Some users shouldn't say this stuff about staff. That's horrible D:

  15. Broken, did you get my email involving my 'abuse'?

  16. J, I don't know who you are, so I'm not sure. You'd have to give enough details for me to know if I got it or not.

  17. This still doesn't explain why glitches are not fixed. No Glitches = No Abuse

    ReplyDelete
  18. Support staff is not able to fix any glitches. That is up to the site developers.

It is unreasonable to expect a site such as Rescreatu, which is constantly developing and changing, to have zero glitches. It isn't unreasonable to expect members not to exploit them if found.

Stumbling across a glitch and experiencing its effects is not exploitation. Stumbling across a glitch, experiencing its effects, and then abusing that glitch repeatedly to profit is exploitation.

Every glitch on site I can think of right now which can be exploited for profit, you have to take unusual measures to go about exploiting it. You can't accidently exploit any of them to the point of being banned.

    ReplyDelete
  19. [Support staff is not able to fix any glitches]They just get kicks out of banning users.

We are not expecting zero glitches but we are not expecting glitches at every turns either. No unusual measure needed.

[Stumbling across a glitch, experiencing its effects, and then abusing that glitch repeatedly to profit is exploitation]If I don't sell it then I'm not profiting from it.

  20. Staff doesn't get kicks out of banning users.

If you went to the gas station, found a glitch at the pump that gave you unlimited gas, but you didn't sell the gas, is it okay for you to continue getting the gas as long as you don't sell it?

    Of course not. =)

  21. Anyone with any decency will report it the moment they realise the glitch. It's pretty obvious when people are benefiting from a glitch. They usually have ungodly amounts of something particular, or seem to produce TU/credits out of absolutely nowhere.

  24. Broken, how about Ranchers?
    Aren't they glitched too?

Forgive me If someone has already noted this.

  25. Witchy,

If ranchers are allowing overstocking, I wasn't aware of it. I've always had to pay to upgrade my rancher. We will definitely take a look at this though! Thanks for asking. =)

  26. I saw someone with over 100 pets on the profile page. Isn't 25 the max?

    ReplyDelete
  27. The above IS a glitch, but it is not something we are going to be banning for, because it's widespread and easily an oversight, not deliberate abuse. :)

  29. dear Broken,
i can't seem to open rescreatu whenever i try it would say:

The server at www.rescreatu.com is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.

If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

i never had a problem getting in res before, even using other computers or laptops i still can't open it and i reaallly don't want to let my profile pets die :( i just finished a big exam and was planning to train them and stuff. I don't know whether it's just me or its the site i just need to know :) thank you -alyanabilla

  30. I haven't been on rescreatu in some time because my da's laptop broke, but i recently got a new laptop of my own and tried to log onto rescreatu again only to find my account PUPPYM was banned for multiple accounts. I don't understand at all that reason for banning me as i've never used more than one account, but perhaps it could be because my friend also had an account and she used to log on to check on my pets for me because i had no laptop anymore though before my da's laptop crashed and got the blue screen of death i used to log on rescreatu from her laptop when staying over in hers so i could check on my pets. I would really like to start playing res again, but if my account can't be unbanned could i possibly make a new one instead?.

  32. Thank you for posting this.
May I ask how a person who was accused of multiple acounts falsly is able to proof that she never created a second account?
Is it even possible if IPs don't count as proof anymore?
    Just wondering though.

    1. IP history is only an indicator, it is not proof of anything on its own. The activity logs are where the real proof lies. If you feel that you were wrongly banned, you can always email contact@rescreatu.com to appeal.

  33. If you say it is based on log that you ban users , then i have a question to ask .

If my sibblings and i were to sign up with separate accounts but instead of buying from the other players , we exchange , trade , and set up a showroom amongst ourselves, wouldn't that seem suspicious on the log ? You know , like it may seem that it is really one person using the multiple cheat accounts rather than different users using different accounts
    ?

If your answer is yes , it does seem suspicious , then i must say that although it does seem suspicious , we haven't broken any rule . We each have our own account .

This is the problem right here. Please please please , as a staff , implement the rule that the users are at least entitled to being warned once before the ban is used .Sometimes , not everyone knows how things work around there . Also , give them a chance to explain . Not everyone is trying to cheat . But when accounts are banned just like that , only anger , confusion and frustration are felt .

Like i said , at least put up a rule or a warning saying that excessive trading or giving of items or pets among two different accounts will result in suspicion of multiple account cheat and therefore will be banned . thus sibblings or family members whom are playing together will be more careful or they can choose to not play at all seeing that it is an every player for himself game .

    thank you

    1. The patterns of play between siblings and/or close friends is very different from the patterns of play between accounts being played by the same person. While the example you gave would SEEM suspicious, suspicion alone is not enough to issue a ban. The logs MUST be investigated and proof must be found before a ban is issued.

  34. Once an account is banned , will the user get a chance to sign up again using a different account or will you , the staff members track down our Ip number and ban the new account too ? When a user signs up after his/her first account is banned , its not to say that he or she is attempting another chance at multiple account cheat . Its just that the user wants to Continue on at Res but since the first acc can't be used , a second one has to be created .

    1. We always welcome users to return and play by the rules! The only exception is if you have received an IP ban. An IP ban is only issued for extreme cases - mostly for things such as hacking attempts, trolling, harassing other users. The serious stuff. But IP bans are also issued in more extreme cases of multiple accounting, for example, someone found to be playing with 25 accounts. IP bans are also issued in cases where the user has been banned several times prior for the same offense.
