I am interested in hearing opinions, questions, and ideas from you guys concerning Rescreatu. It doesn't have to be ban-related, just Res-related.

Comments can be made anonymously or not, that is totally up to you guys. I'll leave this up for a week or so and then make responses. =)

  1. My biggest irritation with Rescreatu at the moment is the amount of people who don't care about offering fairly for people's pets. They underoffer and rip-off people, but then sell the pets for almost double the price. I know it's about 'profit' and all, but ripping people off is so rude. I've seen far too much of this on Rescreatu more than anywhere else. Maybe it's cause I play too much, but whatever.

Also, it's okay if we comment more than once, correct?

  2. Sure, you can comment as many times as you like.

The situation you described above annoys me too. You have to look at it from more than one angle, though, and a huge angle is that this is a game.

Games usually involve some skill or strategy, so it is in your best interest to know the rules of the game, and how you can maximize your chances of "winning".

I personally think its tacky to purposely rip off a new player. I also think that new players have a responsibility to educate themselves on the value of items or pets in the game. A lot of new users are ripped off more due to their haste to get any TU, rather than wait and ask about the value of what is being sold. I would love to have something like a Rescreatu Welcome Wagon, a team of members willing to friend new users and show them around the site if they like. This way, they would have a buddy to go to with questions that they might be intimidated to ask on the shoutbox, and someone they could trust to tell them if they are possibly being suckered into a bad deal.

  3. The Welcome Wagon is a great idea, and I'd be very willing to help!

My issue with Rescreatu is that when someone on my Respals gets banned, I'm not notified and have to go through my Respals myself to find the banned ones. I don't have many friends, but I know of people who have lots and the banned users are just taking up space. Is there any way to delete banned users from Respals and other places, where their usernames will still be seen?

    ReplyDelete
  4. The only way to delete banned users from Respals is manually. Also, some users might want to keep the banned user in their list.

We can't delete the banned accounts, because that would delete any history of them, and make the usernames available to be used again...which would just be a huge mess. It would take more system resources and more space to notify every respal of a banned user when a ban occurs than it would to just let each user remove them manually.

As for deleting forums and blogs of banned users, that will be done manually by support staff eventually. It is important to leave these things up for the record for a while, because often there are things posted that are also evidence for the ban. On the flip side, they could also be used to clear an account in the case of a mistake. =)

  5. (Well, this should be a really simple question to answer, so I may as well ask it)
The Publish a Book contest (yes, I've been wondering for a while)...where am I supposed to put my username on the email? o_O I couldn't figure out where to put mine, so I just didn't put it anywhere.

  6. I haven't seen the form for PAB, so I don't know if there is a specific place for your username. I don't see why it wouldn't be okay to just put it on there at the end, though. =)

  7. You can put it anywhere, it's simply censored when the judges have a look so there's no favouritism.

  8. My biggest problem with Res is all the awesome people who spontaneously go stupid and make multiple accounts thinking they can get away with it. :(

    ReplyDelete
  9. Same, Riyo. Or cheat, or steal art, or whatever. Dl

  10. Those "awesome" people who have "awesome" accounts got there by using MAs that were previously hidden without new information and logs that patrick has now allowed Support access to. There's no hiding it now. If you cheat, you're caught eventually. Earlier is better, then you have less to lose.

  12. I would LOVE a Rescreatu Welcome Wagon. I would so be part of that! haha. My biggest problem would have to be new users, and it looks like we seem to be working on that :) So i am alll Gooood.

  13. I have a question...do you ban people who haven't logged onto rescreatu for a long time? My friend had an account, she didn't go on for a long time, then she tried to log in, but it said she was banned...

    ReplyDelete
  14. What I find annoying is Res banned someone for having MAs when they didn't, and when she tried e-mailing she at first got no response, and then they wouldn't understand she had no multiples. That's what I find annoying. And I am sorry, Res has gone way down hill from when I first started playing. The art is getting too cartoonish, and staff didn't listen when my friend tried to tell them she didn;t have multiples, and the users all ignore me. That's all.

    ReplyDelete
  15. We are very careful in investigating MA cases thoroughly, and even moreso and several times when they are appealed.

The art is now consistent, and isn't supposed to look realistic.

As much as we would love for users to talk to everyone, we cannot force them to greet you on the shoutbox or accept respals/be your friend. It does take a while to integrate yourself, but it's only a case of being friendly. :)

Dormant accounts are not banned for not being active. <3 It will have been for a different reason.

  16. I agree on the welcome wagon thing. :V

Res had it's low dip, when all the users that were breaking the rules were caught and banned, but now it is starting to heal and perk back up again. Some users may be gone, but many new ones are taking their place and for one, I am glad.

The economy is picking up a little, and version 3 is coming eventually. I think res is doing great right now, especially thanks to the staff. It's picking up slowly, but it's getting there. If we all work together and pitch in a little, res will be an awesome place to be at.

  17. Not many people knew why some users that were recently banned or that they were abusing glitches etc. But those that lots of people know were breaking the rules are still not banned.

Something should be done about Witchy. Are you going to let every scammer get away with it because maybe you do not like the scammed person? Or maybe because the scammed person did something that irritated you in the past? That is most ridiculous.

The rules say "Scamming and attempting to cheat other users out of items or tu will not be tolerated on any level."

So this is not considered scamming or cheating? You cant do anything because she followed through with the deal she made? How can it be considered a deal? Two name tags and a real named orchid gondra for a black liyure is a very obvious scam. The scammed user just came back after a long time and no one bothered to tell her that her black liyure was worth so much more? Everyone just sat there and let Witchy scam her?

Did Witchy even get a warning?
I am very displeased that staff allow players like Witchy, whom everyone knows scammed another, can get pass the rules.

  18. But it's not against the rules to be a jerk. :) Unless the user told the seller that the pet was only worth the name tags and the orchid gondra, it's not scamming. The seller has the responsibility to research the price, and one would hope that the buyer would offer fairly. Not offering fairly isn't considered scamming. It's crappy, and as far as I'm concerned you're due to come back reincarnated as a cockroach. But it's not against the rules to low-ball someone. When I see that, I make a personal note to never buy or sell from that user again. I also try to tell other users when an item/pet is really worth much more. It's really up to the "injured" party to contact Staff if they feel they were scammed. (They might not feel scammed...I've sold a Black Liyure with an amazing name for 45 mil just because I felt like it.) On the other hand, posting derogatory notes on your profile naming another user is something that might get you a note from Staff, as it's awfully close to harassment. It would be sad to risk a nice account by possibly breaking the rules yourself over someone who might be pond scum, but didn't actually break a site rule. :(

  19. Dangit, forget to mention this:

"But those that lots of people know were breaking the rules are still not banned. Something should be done about *****. Are you going to let every scammer get away with it because maybe you do not like the scammed person? Or maybe because the scammed person did something that irritated you in the past? That is most ridiculous."

There's a lot of assuming that you KNOW something going on there, and you're posting it as though it were fact. If you KNOW that someone is breaking a site rule, report it to Staff. Just because Staff doesn't come roaring in and insta-ban them doesn't mean that you were right and Staff was wrong, or that Staff must be playing favorites. You've just accused Staff being "ridiculous" over something that you don't even know that they've done, due your own assumption of the reasons for their behavior. I don't think that you'd want someone to do that to you.

  20. Witchy's case was simple. We checked the R-mails because the "scam" was reported directly to myself, and it was found out that PrettyCorpse had agreed to the deal without bothering to check black liyure prices. I also believe that the RWN was something very close and personal to her, so she believe it worth it at the time. PrettyCorpse is also not a completely new user at all, and even when the liyure were available, an orchid gondra and 2 nametags wouldn't have covered the cost, and she would have been aware of that. I think it was about a year she said she'd come back from, and Black Liyure were still worth around 150-200m at that point.

So it was not considered a scam, because Witchy did not decieve. And as for staff favouritising users, I am biased to neither one of them because PrettyCorpse has done nothing to me in the past and I consider her a perfectly respectable person and user. Same goes for Witchy.

  21. Just wanted to clarify something...I'm not saying that the seller *here* was a jerk. Deliberately under-offering to a clueless user makes you a jerk, imho. But from what I understand, the name on the pet was the buyer's son's name? I'd offer up all kinds of pets/items for one of my favorite names, and others would probably call me uninformed or crazy. XD Whether or not the deal was "good" is not for someone *else* to decide. If one of the involved parties feels scammed, THEY can report it. It's not really for someone else to meddle in.

Back to my original reason for posting: didn't Pat write a blog or something about V3? Would it be possible to post a link to it (maybe even permanently on the sidebar)? I have all sorts of questions, but they might be answered there first. :)

  22. User A prices an albino creatu in his shop for 10,000 tu.
User B buys User A's albino creatu for 10,000 tu.

That's a scenario of a common occurrence on Rescreatu. The only difference here is that User A has now made a big deal out of it and the creatu is much more coveted than any common albino creatu.

Would you be able to justify banning User B for that?

    ReplyDelete
  23. No, a ban would not be appropriate for the above situation at all.

Anything marked with a price in a shop is fair game to anyone with the TU to purchase it. It is the user's responsibility to make sure their prices are set correctly.
