So lately, users have been spotted speculating why so many older site members are suddenly being banned. A favorite reason to list for these bans is jealousy, and of course the reasons already addressed in the first blog entry.
Simply put: You're seeing a surge in bans of older members because staff has more logging tools. Those that have been getting away with cheating for so long can now be spotted, and as a consequence, are banned. No ulterior motive here - staff is just doing the job they were hired to do.

Well it's good that you are catching these trollers(: Thank you for that.
ReplyDeleteBut is it possible for there to be a misunderstanding with these banned users? Or is it possible to be unbanned?
Misunderstandings are certainly possible, and mistakes can be made. But when you're looking at logs that tell you the history of every stock, merchant shop, and rancher shop purchase, item trades, pet trades, bank transfers, games played, eggs picked up, alert logs, and rmails, it's pretty clear-cut when a ban needs to be made. When it isn't clearly obvious, we wait until there is more information and then make a decision.
ReplyDeleteIt is possible to be unbanned. If a mistake is made, then it should be fixed when found. I've fixed several mistakes so far, and I'm sure there will be more to fix in the future. =)
Alright, thanks for clearing that up.
ReplyDeleteSo even IP bans have a chance of being unbanned? That's a question that always had me.
Yes, every ban has the chance of being unbanned if a mistake was made.
ReplyDeleteBut lots of users aren't believed by staff D: That's my one complaint... I knew a few of the banned users in real life and they were just siblings who shared a computer.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible for users who aren't banned to vouch for a banned member?
Staff has to go by the evidence we see before us. We can't simply take someone's word, not in any support situation. When UserA and UserB are banned for multi-accounting, then tell us it was their sibling, we take a look at the facts. When the facts show that UserA was sending every item, TU, and pet to UserA from UserB, and UserB didn't play at all, the fact in this situation is that either multiple accounting or account sharing was going on. Either way, its cheating. I've run into users who think this is a loophole and they can do this, but it isn't okay to have your sibling sign up an account, abandon it, and then let you have free reign over it.
ReplyDeleteIt is possible to vouch for a banned member, but you have to keep in mind that staff sees everything that goes on behind the scenes, and we still have to look at the facts first.
I really wonder what happened to Rena. D:
ReplyDeleteOne day I see them buying and selling normally, and when I go to check on a pet I sold them...poof.
Banned. 80
I do think users deserve an explanation for why people are banned. But then again, some need privacy.
It's just a question of which way is best.
ReplyDeleteIs it against the rules to make another account after the first one got banned, because of a sibling? My sibling got me banned on purpose so I made a nbew account. :( its been about 1 1/2 years now. Should I report myself?
ReplyDeleteNo, the only time you aren't supposed to make another account is if there has been an IP ban put into place, meaning so much trouble has been caused, that you aren't welcome back on the site. We try to do as few IP bans as possible, because we want users to come back and play the game legitimately. =)
